PLAN545 Learning Objectives
- Become familiar with decision making, policy analysis and governance as applied to climate adaptation and ecosystem services in Costa Rica with readings, discussion, and field studies
- Build an understanding of land use and watershed management in Costa Rica through direct study in two watersheds
- Learn key issues affecting biodiversity protection and ecosystem services in Costa Rica through presentation from regional experts
- Interact with key stakeholders and researchers conversant in English to understand key resource conflicts and policy tradeoffs in the watershed management
- Learn about major research projects underway in the region on these issues
- Understand how climate change could affect Latin American communities, and how adaptation can be fostered by planning and community involvement
- Provide a basis for future work on governance, climate adaptation and ecosystem services
